From Dr. James Lan and his team: Very pleased to inform you that our new project on implementing dd-cfDNA has been funded by Genome BC/Alberta ($994,000) please see their press release here. BC will be the first center in Canada to implement this technology. https://genomealberta.ca/project/overcoming-barriers-for-rapid-adoption-of-donor-derived-cell-free-dna-for-surveillance-of-kidney-allograft-injury-in-canada/
Gut Microbiota Study 2025 Through a generous grant from the Kidney Foundation of Canada Allied Health Grant, as well as the extensive support we received through the BC Renal Research Unit, we have successfully started recruitment for the Gut Microbiota Study, as first study of its kind in BC to describe the CKD non-dialysis population in terms of their gut microbiota profiles, as well as to see if oral nutrition supplement therapy alters the gut microbiota composition for those who are covered under our universal nutrition supplement policy program. Furthermore, we will gather in depth dietary intake data to describe how fibre and protein intakes may shape gut microbiota, and how dietary patterns impact CKD outcomes after a 1-year period. We are particularly fortunate to have the support of a great research team, which includes research partners, who have shaped the study design in a significant way.
